Simple Ways to Show Your Mind, Body, and Spirit Some Love

In February, there is so much focus on love, and while I’m all for love as the message, sometimes we forget to show ourselves love. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to overlook our own well-being. Ironically, it’s those times when we find ourselves wrapped up in “doing” for others or running a business or trying to get to all of the things on our to-do list that we’re most in need of some self-care.

As we wrap up this month and prepare to welcome spring in March (and, depending what part of the world you live in, set those clocks ahead), I wanted to share a few of my favorite tools to help simplify your routine so you can should your  mind, body, and spirit some much-deserved love.

Mind

Mindset is everything. If you’re finding yourself a little more prone to stress or anxiety spirals as we get deeper into winter, this is a great time to build a sustainable meditation habit. I love mediation apps for this. A few to check out are Insight Timer, Headspace, and Calm. Start with just a few minutes, and try tacking it onto something you already do everyday. What’s been working for me in this season of life is, on weekdays, right after breakfast and before I see my first morning clients or start morning tasks, I do a 3-5 minute meditation to get me grounded for the day.

If there is another habit you’re working on making a regular part of your life, there are also some great habit tracking apps like Habitica, Streaks, and HabitShare to check out.

Beans has been joining my meditation sessions since she and her dad moved in with me in 2019.

Body

Simple is also great when it comes to taking care of our physical health. Eliminate barriers and streamline where you can.

For example, if you’re feeling too overwhelmed to spend lots of time cooking, lean into some healthy shortcuts like grocery delivery, pre-chopped or frozen produce, and meal kit or healthy meal delivery services. You can also make a list of your favorite healthy takeout options to reduce decision fatigue when placing an order.  I also adore Thrive Market for ordering my favorite healthy snacks and pantry staples for much less money.

Now, I am not someone who believes a greens powder supplement is an all-the-time replacement for actual greens, but thoughtfully chosen supplements can also help by addressing gaps in your diet when needed. After deciding to transition off of my many-capsuled prenatal supplement routine (story for another day), I decided to try drinking AG1 on days I need a nutrient boost. It’s got a slightly sweet, almost tropical flavor that comes from pineapple and vanilla, and I love that it’s an easy way to get in comprehensive nutrition on a busy day. It’s nice to know I’m getting in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients to support body, brain, and gut health. You guys know I’m SUPER-picky about supplements and do not like to mess around, so I appreciate that AG1 is NSF-certified for Sport to ensure high quality and safety. Get 5 FREE AG1 Travel Packs with your first purchase when you subscribe to AG1. You’ll also get a one-year supply of AG Vitamin D3+K2 drops with your first purchase when you sign up for a double subscription of AG1. As always, talk to your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement.

Movement is also magic for brain and body health, so make it as convenient as possible. I know it’s still cold and icy out in many places, so if that’s impacting your fitness, have a sustainable indoor option. I’ve found it so helpful to use a walking pad to help me get some steps in on crummy days or when I have a lot of work that makes it harder to carve out that time. I’ve also been reminding my clients of the many benefits of strength training, so if you’ve been thinking of making that part of your routine, here’s your sign to stock up on some resistance bands or free weights so you don’t have to make the effort to get to the gym. Honestly, I prefer working out at home because I can wear whatever I want and my cats can come. I’m also a huge fan of fitness apps like Apple Fitness+, Tone It Up, PVolve, Obe, Peloton, Grace & Form Studio, and more to help you cultivate a sustainable routine. My prenatal and postnatal clients also love Studio Bloom

Spirit

Nurturing our spiritual well-being allows us to connect with our inner selves and find peace amidst life’s challenges. Consider exploring practices like mindfulness meditation and journaling to cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness and compassion. By incorporating these simple yet powerful tools into your routine, you can enhance your spiritual journey and cultivate a greater sense of harmony and balance in your life.

I recently interviewed confidence coach Jennifer Gray and bestselling author and speaker Amber Rae for a ForbesWomen article all about the benefits of journaling and how to make it a part of your day even if you’re super-busy or have no idea how to start. I highly recommend the gorgeous new edition of Rae’s The Feelings Journal. Aside from being a beautiful book, it’s packed with helpful prompts and tools journaling nerds and newbies alike will love.
