When it comes to fall desserts, it can seem like everything is pie—and if not pie, then some heavy, rustic something-or-other.

Pumpkin Pie vegan ice cream For a lighter dessert that happens to be vegan-friendly, try this frozen banana soft-serve—with an autumnal twist. It’s also great for soothing those seasonal “is this a cold or allergies” sore throats.


  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice


  1. Pulse ingredients in a food processor or blender until mixture resembles soft serve ice cream.
  2. To serve, enjoy plain or topped with any sauces or toppings you like.

Variations: This is great with a teaspoon of maple syrup mixed in. For a fun flavor twist, add a half-tablespoon of peanut butter. This is also delicious with chocolate—try topping with chocolate chips or your favorite chocolate sauce. For crunch, add granola or pumpkin seeds.

Another added bonus is that this recipe boasts a hefty dose of beta-carotene, which can give your skin a nice glow—something hard to come by as we transition to the darker months and spend more time inside.

Turning 30 next month has me more interested than usual in skincare and the like. It’s a question I actually get asked sometimes. Are there foods that may help maintain a youthful appearance? Sure. I always joke that I look young for my age because “I don’t smoke and I eat my vegetables,” but honestly, I do feel that’s a big part of it. There are lots of powerful pigments and biochemical compounds in veggies (and fruits), and well, “don’t smoke” is kind of a given when it comes to what you can do to keep the agin clock from speeding up.
