I totally would. There, I said it. I know it may seem a little strange, but at least I’m not the only one out there—London ice cream parlor, The Icecreamists has started selling (and selling out of) ice cream made from human breast milk donated by women paid £15 per 10 ounces of milk after a health screening.
The £14 dessert is made by combining breast milk with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest. It’s served in a martini glass (into which liquid nitrogen is poured, for whatever reason) and touted as being “organic, free-range and totally natural.” Oh yeah, and they’re calling the concoction Baby Gaga.
I don’t know about the whole organic, free-range thing—what are the standards for organic human breast milk production? Does there need to be some guarantee that donors consume only organic feed or something? The free-range bit is kind of hilarious, though. To me, anyway. It sounds like an elaborate and ridiculous ice cream creation, but hell, I’d give it a shot. I am curious, however, to know how the nutrition stats stack up against other kinds of ice cream.
Speaking of ice cream, I recently tried coconut milk ice cream at a family gathering and really liked it. It’s a little pricey for me to want to purchase it regularly, especially since I’m fortunate enough to be just fine with dairy, but it’s a tasty alternative for those with lactose issues!
Also, has anyone tried this Artic Zero stuff? It sounds intriguing, but as a real-food enthusiast, I can’t help but be suspicious of a product that boasts only 150 calories per pint.
