Last week I wrote a post about carry-on snacks, and I recently put together a handy little guide to what to eat on a travel day, which you can grab here, so I thought it would be fun to keep the travel theme going.

For today’s What I Ate Wednesday post, I’m sharing an example of a real-life travel day. On this particular day, I woke up before 3 am to travel with family to South Carolina and had a mini reunion with some relatives I hadn’t seen in way too long. These What I Ate Wednesday posts would be really boring if I showed only “perfect “ days (not that there is such a thing), so this is a great example of a day that is not perfect. Yeah, I had three salads, but I also had three drinks…

I met my parents at the airport and then after a morning and afternoon of grocery shopping and prepping, we had family over for drinks and appetizers before all going out for dinner together. I’m pretty sure I was half-asleep before my head even hit the freaking pillow that night, but spacing out my meals and snacks helped me stay away and on somewhat of an even keel all day. Here’s a look at what I ate (and drank):

Breakfast part one: I had a cup of yogurt with cinnamon and a drizzle of maple syrup and some green powder shaken up with water (not pictured)
Breakfast part two: two eggs and greens (not pictured)
Morning snacks: cherry tomatoes on the plane, a stick of turkey jerky
Lunch: a simple salad and then a tuna carpaccio appetizer with mushrooms & spinach; prosecco to drink (because vacation, was my thinking)
Cocktail hour: carrots & hummus, a piece each of salami and cheese, a few olives; bourbon on the rocks
Dinner: Salad with strawberries and basil vinaigrette; octopus with arugula, chorizo vinaigrette, and crispy potatoes ; a glass of sparkling wine to drink

What was the last trip you took? What are some of your favorite travel-day foods?
