Happy Wednesday! Hope you’re having a great week so far. During the holiday season, taking time for a little self-care can make a world of difference when you feel like you’re going to lose it. I don’t know about you, but I tend to reach a mini-breaking point come mid-December where I start feeling physically and emotionally run down. Sometimes it feels like my body gets sick to get my attention. When I woke up with a tell-tale scratchy throat and aching head last week, I lightened my schedule a bit to give myself some time to catch my breath and recharge a little.

By the time the weekend came, I felt like myself again and was able to enjoy some social stuff (OMG you guys— Star Wars!) along with work stuff (grading, writing, social media catch-up and scheduling). I also crossed a bunch of household tasks off the list (laundry, meal-prep, organizing some drawers that suddenly felt claustrophobic…) and got ready for the holidays. I’m officially done with my shopping, save for a few last gift cards. I also have space in places I didn’t have space before. Even if it is the NYC definition of “space,” which is smaller than space in other places, it feels great.

It also was nice to be able to enjoy meals at a non-rushed pace for a few days. For today’s What I Ate Wednesday post, here’s a look at what I ate on Saturday:

What I Ate Wednesday #350

Breakfast: Roasted sweet potato and two fried eggs over a mix of kale, roasted broccoli, and sautéed mushrooms

Lunch: A salad of arugula, zoodles, cucumber, tomato, roasted eggplant, roasted yellow cauliflower, and oil-packed sardines tossed with balsamic ; a sliced pink lady apple with cinnamon and a drizzle of tahini and honey

Afternoon snack: 2% plain Greek yogurt with pumpkin, cinnamon, vanilla extract, ground flax, and a drizzle of maple syrup

Dinner: A simple turkey soup over spaghetti squash ; tea and a square of dark chocolate for dessert
