Happy What I Ate Wednesday. For last week’s food diary-style post, I shared a mellow weekend day. This week I’m going to change things up and show some highlights from a recent trip to South Carolina. In early April, my mom, sister, one of my aunts, and I took a girls’ long weekend trip, where we did a little sight-seeing, shopping, and plenty of eating, of course. I didn’t take pictures of everything because I was trying to unplug a little, but I did snap pictures of some highlights.

Breakfasts were serve-yourself affairs at the house. I ended up making oatmeal using random things we had in the fridge. I think the weird-is-fool award goes to this concoction that had flax, egg whites, spinach, garlic powder, turkey sausage, and aged gouda.

For lunch, we went for seafood on our first day…

and then Saturday we went to Chez Nous in Charleston. Sunday we went to a market/restaurant called Cahill’s. I ordered the Mariner Plate with blackened catfish, okrah, stewed cabbage, and collards.

We had dinner out a few times, and then on Sunday we ate at home. We had chicken chili topped with Greek yogurt and guacamole plus some salad and assorted leftovers from the previous evening’s meal.

I kept snacks pretty simple: mostly fresh fruit and yogurt. I did find a new favorite road-trip-friendly snack, though. These crunchy broccoli florets from Trader Joe’s are legit.
