Happy What I Ate Wednesday. How’s your week going? I’ve been busy around here, but no complaints about that.

I recently spoke with Redbook about dietary habits you should ditch, so the theme of habits in general has been on my mind. I thought it would be a real trip to look back at one of my earlier WIAW posts to see what’s the same and what’s changed.

Here’s what my day looked like about four years ago. Weird.

Lunch, circa 2011

Salmon avo toast and salad

Lunch circa 2015

Oatmeal for breakfast, an afternoon snack of yogurt—not so different there. Some other things are very different, though. For example, what I put on top of said yogurt. Or take that at the time I wrote that post in 2011, I was in the early stages of distancing myself from a former boyfriend’s vegetarian eating pattern/regime, and even smoked salmon felt a little bit rebellious. My, how things have changed.

That old picture reminds me that I really need to get back on the Ezekiel English muffin train—I forgot how good those are. And why don’t I still do tomato with smoked salmon and goat cheese? It’s like I forgot that this wonderful combination exists. Smoked salmon is still a favorite, though, except I tend to pair it with avocado.

We all go through different stages in our lives (food-related and otherwise), but I like to think they’re all valid. It’s how we get to where we’re going. Some things will change, some things will stay the same, but it’s all part of the big picture.

What are some food habits that have stuck with you over time? What are some things you used to love or hate but have totally changed your mind on?
