Earlier this summer, actor Jonah Hill, who has appeared in films such as Superbad, Knocked Up, and Moneyball, debuted a new, slimmer look. Much slimmer.

Jonah Hill

Though the 5’7″ actor, 27, isn’t sure exactly how much weight he’s lost, he told the L.A. Times he’s been exercising and changing his diet because he “thought it was important to be healthier.”

Some people I’ve asked hated the new Jonah, arguing that a major part of what made him funny was his appearance. Who is this new dude? Will he still be funny? On the other hand, many were happy for him that he feels healthier.

When someone is very overweight, dropping pounds (ideally, slowly and sensibly) can vastly improve health, from better cholesterol and blood sugar levels to better sleep and more. I think it’s a shame the way that weight becomes so tied into identity for celebrities and regular folks alike, but it’s one of those little realities that’s not going to go away. Time will tell, I suppose, how audiences feel about Jonah Hill’s new look. As long as he feels good, though, I really think that’s all that should matter to him.

What do you think of the new Jonah Hill?
