When reading nutrition labels, I find that I look first at serving size and ingredients and then usually iron, protein, fiber, and calcium. If it’s an item like soup, I’ll check vitamin A content. What do you look for on nutrition labels?

According to a new report from the NPD Group’s Dieting Monitor, the top five items Americans look for on food labels are:

  • whole grains
  • dietary fiber
  • calcium
  • vitamin C
  • and protein

Experts say that iron and vitamin A should also be looked at.
