Alternate Title for this post: “I Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost!” (I just saw Ghostbusters for the first time tonight), but it seemed just the tiniest bit too weird, given that my great-grandmother died yesterday. The Ghostbusters thing was a coincidence—Chris ordered it from Netflix the other night and it just so happened to arrive today.
Since I’ve been traveling non-stop and will be traveling again in a couple days for the funeral, I feel like I haven’t had time to process anything. I couldn’t sleep too well last night, and found myself awake at 5:30 (an hour before my “time to go to the dentist” alarm clock). Rather than wake Chris with my tossing and turning, I laced up my sneakers and went to the gym. Endorphins and a good breakfast seem to help when I don’t know what else to do. At least it got me through an early dentist appointment along with lunch and errand-running with my mom and sister. There was also some comfort food involved.
My great-grandma was a really cool lady who packed quite a lot into her 95 years. She was also an awesome cook. Back during the Depression, she used to feed hobos passing through town, which I’ve always thought was really neat. You’d be hard- pressed to find someone as caring and tolerant. She will definitely be missed, but I have lots of happy memories of her. If and when I write my first book, her name will be on the dedications page.
