A few other things:
1.) I got a massage Tuesday afternoon. I feel like I have new shoulders.
2.) Tuesday night I got dinner with some of my old dietetic intern friends at Neely’s Barbecue Parlor on the Upper East Side. Bourbon, pulled pork, brussels with onions & bacon—I was basically in heaven.
3.) Most of my life, I was kind of a wuss about eating lobster—I would always ask for it to be served already out of the shell. Then last summer I went to the beach with a then-gentleman friend who didn’t want/know how to dissect his own lobster. Because, well, I am woman, here me roar (etc, etc), I got to work shelling (never once mentioning that I was completely new to this) while he drank another beer. #dontbelieveinmodernlove
Come to think of it, that was the last night I spent with said gentleman-friend. If I ever write a book about dating, maybe it will be about the “last meals.” At the very least, perhaps one day there will be an essay from me about appetites and men and women and how it is so hard sometimes to avoid apologizing for acting on those most basic desires…like lobster. I mean, come on.
I’m working all of July 4th weekend. As a treat to myself, I think I’m going to make something like these lobster BLTs from How Sweet It Is for dinner one night, though I’ll probably buy the meat pre-shelled. The last thing I think I’ll want to do after a day of covering the entire hospital by myself is boil a live creature to death so I can make a sandwich.
4.) Because this post was on the verge of getting a little “woe is me/I’m such a workaholic”, I’m going to the beach with my mom this weekend. Need to pack. I don’t even care about the scattered showers in the forecast. Just not working for a whole weekend is enough…
What’s on your mind this Thursday?
