About damn time. This past Thursday, the Senate passed a bill to make school lunches healthier. The $4.5 billion legislature would create new standards for all foods in schools, including vending machine items, giving students access to healthier meal options. It would also expand the number of low-income kids eligible for free or reduced-cost meals. It had looked like things were slowing down on this, so I’m excited to finally see this bill passed!
Michelle Obama called it a “groundbreaking piece of legislation that will help us provide healthier school meals to children across America” that “will play an integral role in our efforts to combat childhood obesity.”
