A bunch of commitments took themselves off my to-do list for the rest of September and early October. Most of them are school and work-related, but one blog-related one is that I found out today I will not be advancing to the next round of Foodbuzz’s Project Food Blog. Thank you to those who voted for me, but I’m actually pretty relieved not to be progressing to the next round.

Have you ever been sincerely relieved to “lose” something? As someone with a tendency toward competitiveness, it’s a rare thing for me to be glad not to selected for something I took a shot at, but once in a while when I’m nearing burn-out, the extra breathing room is welcome. So while I’ll be following the competition (some of these bloggers come up with the most creative dishes!), I’m grateful I won’t have to worry about keeping up with the various cooking and blogging challenges. I have enough on my plate as it is, this fall!

As I may or may not have mentioned, to become an RD, you must first do a clinical internship, and it is tremendously difficult to get one—fewer than half of applicants were matched last year! The deadline for spring 2011 internship applications was today, and I can’t tell you what a load off it is to have mine in. Since only a few school take on interns in January, I figure this go-around is a litmus test. I’ll be overjoyed if I get in to the program I applied to, but I also know there are quite a lot of applicants for very few spots.

I was supposed to go to Boston  this weekend and am a little bummed it didn’t work out, but having a day off to decompress and get some work done was nice. I even had time for steel-cut oats this morning, complete with pumpkin, banana, cottage cheese, and maple syrup. So good—and perfect fuel for all the errand-running, working out, stretching, and studying. All I’m really planning to do for the rest of the night is play around on the harp and get more reading done. Ultra-exciting, I know, but hey, gotta rest up for the “real” plans coming up later this weekend.
