October is usually my favorite month, and even though there were some 2020-spirited challenges to that statement, I still feel grateful I had the opportunity to experience a lot of the things I love about fall in the Northeast: beautiful weather and long walks in the crisp air, the smell of fireplaces, warm drinks, and of course, trading sandals for boots. And eating, like, so much pumpkin and winter squash my palms started turning orange.

On the professional front, I did a really fun office hours session with students in the mindbodygreen Functional Nutrition Coaching Program and some delicious recipe development projects. I also recorded some new podcast interviews and released several new episodes. Since this year’s annual Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) was all virtual this year, I also clocked a lot of continuing education hours and attended countless online events like food demos, happy hours, and tastings.

In a year of transitions, I am preparing for even more transitions—and that’s aside from the transitions the whole country and the whole world are experiencing. There have been many times this month where I’ve had to remind myself of what I would tell a patient or client: these are uncertain, unprecedented times. Be kind to yourself. Even with all of that, I am also choosing to be hopeful and excited about the future.

As I do at the beginning of every month, I’m sharing a look at last month’s publications and media appearances.
