Starting September 3rd, New York City will start tracking the number of bottles stocked and used in hospitals participating in the Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, which aims to promote breastfeeding among new moms. 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have signed on to be involved and have also agreed to refrain from giving out products with formula company logos and to document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.

It’s already quite a controversial initiative, but since I drank the kool-aid on the benefits of breast feeding a long time ago, I’m actually glad to see such  bold move.

You can read more about Latch On at the Health Department’s website.
