Stacey Irvine
Did anyone else see this story about Stacey Irvine, a 17-year-old British girl who reportedly collapsed after subsisting on only chicken nuggets for the past 15 years? Granted, this was first published in several tabloids, so consider the source, but still—can you imagine eating one thing for that long? No wonder she’s said to be suffering from anemia and swollen veins along with various nutrient deficiencies. Who wouldn’t if they’d never eaten a fruit or vegetable and ate nothing but nuggets all the time?
“I loved them so much they were all I would eat,” Irvine said. “I just couldn’t face even trying other foods. Mum gave up giving me anything else years ago.” She admits that although she now knows this diet is bad for her, she can’t give them up. Legitimate food addiction or not, that’s still pretty scary!
What do you think about this story? Have you or anyone you ever known been on a crazy food jag?

My youngest ate mostly instant oatmeal and instant mac and cheese for about 2 yrs. luckily she would also eat bananas, raw carrots, and drink juice and milk, but that’s as varied as her diet got! I’ve going through a stressful time and for some reason all I seem to want to eat is pbj sandwiches. I force myself to eat other things.
Haha at least she was eating some healthier stuff! It’s so funny how when we’re stressed we tend to crave really specific things. I went through a phase in college where I craved popcorn all the time. Haha there were definitely a lot of nights I’d make myself eat something like soup or salad for veggies/protein and have popcorn on the side while I worked.
If I let her, my 6-year-old would eat nuggets all day long. But of course I won’t let her! It’s really important that a parent be a parent in these sort of situations to ensure such ridiculous things like this don’t happen!
Very odd.
Well said—I can only imagine how frustrating this kind of thing can be as a parents!
