I like to joke that I get my workaholism from my mother. As you can imagine, this makes it hard for us to find time to get together. We finally managed to go out for dinner this week, though.
We explored the Upper West Side on foot, eventually settling at an outdoor table at Citrus Bar & Grill on Amsterdam. To start, we shared their shrimp quesadilla…
…and each ordered a different salad for our main course. I went with the seared yellowfin tuna salad, which also involved greens, seaweed, edamame, avocado, and a carrot-vinaigrette dressing.
After that we walked around a bit more and made our way to Hells Kitchen for dessert at Kyotofu, a “whimsical Japanese dessert bar” my mom had heard about. I must have walked by it a thousand times in the 4 years I lived in that neighborhood but never stopped in, probably because it’s so close to Gazala Place, one of my favorite restaurants. I can’t remember the last time I went to a place specifically for an after-dinner sweet, and this did not disappoint. We shared the koru coma sweet tofu and the chocolate mocha cake.
Both were outstanding. Totally worth the trip.

This all looks great!!
Thanks—it was fantastic.
Unlike many of my friends, i eat with my family everyday, it’s the one time we can all seat down together, tell each other about are day, joke, listen to the radio- around the time we eat are dinner there is section on the radio called drive-time confessions, were people confess about things they’ve done.
for example tonight’s was a women who when she was a child had been bad and therefore been banned from doing this weekly betting game like the lottery so to get back at her father she wrote the winning numbers of her slip to make out that she had the winner numbers and that if he’d let her play instead of banning her that week they could have been millionaire’s!
the last time are family has a meal out at a restaurant was about 2 weeks ago, we went to pub in a small village nearby and had a Sunday carvery.
What a great family ritual!
Sadly, I am a plane ride away from my family, so I try to make it home three times a year, and my mom comes to visit me for my birthday. I’m hoping to get a job closer to home next year!
That so nice that you guys get to spend that time together!
