I can’t decide whether to find this heartening or kind of…off.

In an effort to address concerns about the obesity epidemic, McDonalds has been hosting nutrition workshops for schoolchildren on calorie counts, fat content, sodium levels and other info about healthy eating. This includes, of course, a crash-course in what kinds of diet-friendly choices to make at your local Mickey-D’s.

Over the past five or so years, the fast food chain has provided more nutritional info and offered several more lower-calorie items, but it still bugs me a bit to read about promoting fast food to kids at all. Why not teach a class in school on how to make your own Happy (and healthier) Meals at home?

For more about McDonalds and nutritional info for their products, visit them online or check the back of your placemat next time you pop in for a Big-Mac.
