In some of its German locations, McDonalds has begun selling cupcakes in four flavors, each of which is named after a Manhattan neighborhood. Soho is Vanilla, Chelsea is Chocolate, the East Village is Cappuccino, and Central Park is Strawberry.
The New York tie-in was to make them more familiar to German customers, who have seen the “hip little cakes” on dubbed re-runs of “Sex and the City” but not so much in their own cities.
Of the Chelsea flavor, the McDonald’s website suggests eating them by a harbor or lake so you can “enjoy your personal Chelsea feeling.”
Oh wow…

Heh…
I wonder if they’ll bring that one to the States. I kinda doubt it, though, especially since there are so many gourmet cupcake places.
I just went to an event the other night where the founder of Sweet Revenge spoke. She brought some samples, of course! I have to admit, even though I’m not a cupcake enthusiast, they were so good, I think I’m going to need to check it out now. Who needs McDonalds when you’ve got a cupcake & wine bar right in the village?
