Happy Sunday. Hope you’re had a great weekend. For those of you who celebrated, how was your holiday? I enjoyed a nice meal at my aunt’s house. Without even thinking, I did the whole “Fill half the plate with veggies, a quarter with protein, and a quarter with grains.” Hah! Guess you can’t say I don’t practice what I preach: TGiving Cliche plate

We brought Eli with us and had a great time. I think he had the best day of anyone—a new house to explore with lots of people around…dude totally crashed by 6 pm.

I spent Friday with some of the ladies of the family making pierogis and stuffed cabbage and getting a jump on some Christmas cookie baking. pierogies

My mom and I hit up Kohl’s early in the morning to grab a few practical items, but that was our only Black Friday stop. I worked at the hospital on Saturday, but was happy to do it. I actually kind of enjoy the pace of weekend shifts.

Tomorrow is my birthday, and though I’m more excited/relieved to be turning 30, I’ve had a lot of stuff on my mind. I had to laugh when I came across this description of people born on November 30th because it is freakishly spot-on. As I get ready to start a new decade, I can’t help thinking about the music that’s gotten me from points A to B to C and so on. A few examples:

As a teenager, I loved Belle & Sebastian’s “If You’re Feeling Sinister” . It was way near the top of my desert island album list. The title track, in particular, is like instant time travel.

In my late teens, it was all about Elvis Costello’s “New Amsterdam” and “Brilliant Mistake,” the Pixies, and, like, every Beatles album ever. And anything Dylan did pre-1975. And then there was that whole Leonard Cohen/Tom Waits phase in college. Speaking of Leonard Cohen, this piece from the toast is hilarious. Through pretty much all of my twenties, it was Neil Young’s “Tell Me Why.” Written about that one way too much on here.

29 going on 30, I’ve been coming back to Bob Dylan’s “She Belongs to Me” in recent months.

Oh, and Courtney Barnett’s “Nobody Cares if you Don’t go to the Party” because, well, yeah. Everyone is too busy instagramming said party to notice you’re missing.

I guess we’ll see. Always an adventure. If someone had told me in college that this is what my life would be like at 30, I would not have believed them at all. I love how so often, rather than things going the way you think you want them to, they turn out even better. Life really is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. Now about that book I thought I would totally have written by now…

Have a great day!

What were some of your favorite songs or musical artists throughout your life? How about now? Are you where you thought you would be at this age?
