I often tell people about the mind-body connection and the ways stress can wreak havoc on our health. Somehow, though, I manage to forget that applies to me too! The past few months, I feel like I’ve been posting so much about fighting something off—immune system this, immune system that—and there is definitely a connection.
I’ve been trying to find the right way to post about this for over a month now but it’s hard to know how much of your personal life to share on a blog. I know I’ve been alluding to big changes in my life recently but haven’t come totally clean.
In October, Chris and I decided to break up. It was a mutual decision and the transition has been very calm overall, but a change is still a big adjustment, no matter how bright the silver lining.
We learn so much from the people in our lives, it’s hard for me to have regrets, but endings, though they make room for new beginnings, are undeniably stressful. For those of us who carry stress in our bodies, they can be physically challenging. The last few months have included fevers, lost fillings and fatigue, among other things.
So thank you, dear reader, for putting up with all my posts about “fighting something off.” I like to think that I’ve been winning. Go figure, once I finally made the association and acknowledged what I was up against, it started to get a lot easier, and I felt ten times healthier.
I was talking to someone recently about turning 25 last year and feeling stuck and daunted by the changes I knew I would need to make in my life, but now I can’t wait to celebrate my birthday next week. I’m really proud of my 25th year—it’s been one of the most transformative so far, and I’m excited to see what 26 will bring.
