It’s much easier to cook healthy foods when you’re starting off with healthy ingredients. Okay, awesome, but what exactly is a “healthy ingredient?” Consumer Reports recently published a list of must-haves along with cooking tips.

What you’ll see on the list:

  • evaporated milk
  • cocoa powder
  • paprika, smoked salt and peppercorns (to replace bacon…)
  • canned beans
  • plain, fat-free yogurt
  • balsamic vinegar
  • whole grains
