Wow, can you believe we’re only a week away from Thanksgiving? How the heck did that happen? I need to get on my side dish planning game…

In the spirit of today’s randomness as theme, here are a few links and things from the week so far.

*Tuesday night I went to a super-fun RD event hosted by Siggi’s at the beautiful Miette Culinary Studio, where we made a meal inspired by simple yet delicious Icelandic cuisine. I was on team salmon. Once upon a time (aka 5 years ago) I used to fear touching raw meat, but now I’m all, “Yes, I’d like to learn how to skin this fish—hand me the knife!” Typical Sagittarius behavior. Then I went to town with the tweezers to get the bones out. It was oddly satisfying. Anyway. dinner with Siggi

The meal was phenomenal. Each dish featured Siggi’s yogurt, and it totally worked. The dessert was gorgeous too. I take zero credit for that. Siggi's dessert

*I commented on this Yahoo Health article about the potential connection between toast and cancer the other day. I was surprised at how much attention the study got. When it comes to these kinds of stories, I think it’s important to remember there’s more to it than the headline. Sometimes it seems like practically everything causes cancer. Though I do think limiting your exposure to known carcinogens is important, rather than freak out and obsess over what you shouldn’t eat, focus on filling your plate with lots of cancer-fighting fruits and veggies, sip your green tea or coffee, and still have occasional small servings of the things you enjoy that may be on the “no list.” Quality of life is important too—you really need to be in touch with what matters most to you there. Granted this is my particular viewpoint. I’m coming at it from a different background than, say, an oncologist or an RD who might be more strict.

*Charlie Sheen made headlines earlier this week when he released a statement about his HIV status. I thought this piece was a very well written reaction that provides a lot of important information on the illness and addresses common misconceptions about HIV and individuals living with the disease.

Maybe not new, but this Sex, Death & Money episode featuring Jane Fonda is awesome. Maybe even all  the things. Um, can I be her when I grow up? :

Do you enjoy/tolerate touching raw meat when cooking? What/who do you want to be when you grow up?

This post has been part of another Running with Spoons Thinking Out Loud link party, where randomness is the name of the game. Thanks to Amanda for hosting.
