Happy Sunday! Today marks the return of Daylight Saving time. That spring is coming. Supposedly, anyway. I mean, so is Christmas, if you want to get all technical. That said, I hear we’re going to be above freezing here in NYC for several days in a row, so cheers to that.

And with that, I think I’ll get right into my weekly gratitude list.

1.) This week’s unofficial theme was “Songs You Need.” This is one of mine. This is another song I kept going back to this week. And this. And, like, all of Joni Mitchell’s Blue, though I should probably not admit that to the Internet. To be fair, there was a full moon this week, plus an impending time change, eclipse-stuff in the works, plus hormonal considerations, so hey. Some people eat carbs to deal with feelings—apparently I try to time travel to 1970. Happy Placebo Pill Week to me.

2.) A couple weeks ago, I randomly kept thinking about my high school French teacher singing “Que Sera Sera” the way he used to do. I hadn’t thought of it in years and didn’t think to mention it to anyone because it was so silly to suddenly have that stuck in my head, but go figure, one of my friends emailed me the other morning to say she’d been thinking a lot about that phrase. Haha it’s comforting to know I’m not the only person out there mulling over the concept of “what will be will be.”

3.) House of Cards is back! Now that I’m done binge-watching Friends (yep, all 10 seasons in less than 3 months), I have something to look forward to. Not a moment too soon…

4.) While cleaning out old files, I found this picture of baby Eli. The little dude has gotten so big since. Well, as big as a bichon frise can get. He’s going to be a year old next month. Crazy. Photo on 8-29-14 at 5.16 PM

5.) Thank all that is holy for coffee. I will never pretend to be above addiction. We all have our stuff—my “thing” in this life is my  f-ed up feet, and my vice is most definitely caffeine.

6.) After being all about sweet oatmeal for weeks (mostly this zucchini bread oatmeal recipe—with egg whites cooked in), all I want lately is savory oats on my work-from-home days. I think it’s because a coworker introduced me to Trader Joe’s tahini sauce, and I’m pretty sure I’m hooked for life now.

I recently realized/accepted that breakfast and lunch tend to be my biggest meals of the day. This made me feel old—or at least decidedly un-New York, where we are supposedly all about dinner and staying up late.  That said, I still sit on the floor to drink wine with my guests, so I haven’t completely crossed the line into…into what, I’m not sure. Who knows—maybe I’ll still be sitting on the floor drinking booze when I’m in my 80’s. It’s probably much safer when you’re that old, anyway, at least as far as fall risks are concerned.

7.) This may not be an issue for some, but for me, knowing what I want—and saying it out loud or even writing it down—has always been a terrifying concept because it opens the door for failure and disappointment. Yeah, well, when I was laid up with laryngitis in January and too sick to do anything but listen, I scared the hell out of myself by coming up with some answers. I’m glad I did.

What are you thankful for this week? What’s your “thing?” Your vice? What music are you listening to lately?
